Teething Sucks! Here's How to Make It Suck Less

As parents, we love celebrating our babies' milestones. But there's one major milestone we all wish we could do without. Teething.

Teething can be extremely painful for baby, and for parents. Every baby goes through the teething phase; although some experience more pain and discomfort than others. Fortunately, there are ways to make this time better for everyone involved.

Provide support:

While the constant crying and screaming can become stressful and overwhelming for parents, it's important to remember to stay calm and patient during this teething phase. Offer extra hugs and cuddles to your baby during this difficult time to reassure them and remind yourself that this is a phase and it will pass.

Provide temporary relief:

There are plenty of ways to provide temporary relief or distraction to your teething baby, many of which may already be in your fridge! Using chilled fruits, such as cold mashed banana, can provide instant relief to your teething baby. Frozen foods in a mesh feeder, or chilling foods in the fridge can provide instant relief.

A cold washcloth can also be helpful. Rinse a washcloth with cool water and place it in the fridge for a few hours. Keep an extra soother in the fridge or freezer to pull out when the need arises. A gentle gum massage with just your finger can also provide some temporary relief to your teething baby.

Teething Toys:

Teething toys are some of our favourite new baby gifts! As every baby goes through this awful
phase, parents will surely be grateful for any help offered. Though teething is never fun, some
new and exciting teething toys can not only provide relief to sore gums but can also distract baby from the pain.

Some of our favourite teethers are by Malarkey Kids, a company developed by a local mom here in Burlington, Ontario! There are some fantastic options available from this line that are sure to soothe your teething baby.

The Chew Cube, both a rattle and teether in one, is one of our favourites! It's made by 100% food grade silicone that's BPA and Phalate-free, provides ridged edges to soothe baby's gums, geometric shapes for baby to grab onto, and is a fun and interactive toy that baby can play with even when they're not teething.

Another favourite teether is the Munch Mitt. This adorable teething toy provides relief from teething pain while being safe and easy-to-clean. This is also ideal to pack for outings or trips as it is easy to bring along wherever you and your baby go!

The Buddy Bib is a multi-purpose teething toy from this line that all babies are sure to love! This sensory toy is used to hold a baby’s pacifier or teether, while providing the child with a
fun and interactive cuddly buddy! These come in multiple colours and animals and are ideal for
any teething child, as it is water resistant, reversible, and can be attached to anywhere from a
stroller to a car seat to a baby’s wrist! Plus, the bib doubles as a drool bib for all that extra drool babies produce when teething.

The teething phase can seem never ending; but with a few tips, tricks and teething toys; your baby's teething phase can be made easier and a little more fun for everyone.
