Our Favourite Farm Themed Toys for Toddlers

Our Favourite Farm Themed Toys for Toddlers

From the three little pigs to Old MacDonald's farm, there is surely no shortage of the farm-animal theme among young kids. Although most kids don’t typically see live farm animals often, they are a constant image in books, toys, and songs for the first few years of a child’s life.

Why exactly are farm themed toys for kids so popular? Similar to other animals that are not found in cities, such as ones found in jungles, the arctic, or the ocean, farm animals are a great way to introduce your child to the world that exists outside of their backyard. It’s an opportunity to teach them about how other people in the world live, which allows them to exercise their imagination and ask questions. You can also explain to them the importance of farm animals and the roles they play in our lives; such as providing us with the milk we drink and the eggs we eat.

But there are many other educational benefits that come from toys and books that feature our friends from the farm. Because of the unique names given to farm animals, such as “cow”, “sheep”, and “turkey”, kids are able to pronounce them easier as they feature consonants from the front of the mouth. It also introduces them to new sounds, developing their speech ability and teaching them a wider variety of words.

The sounds that farm animals make also help children learn to create sentences. Phrases of the name of the animal matched with the sound it makes, such as “pig, oink”, can help them with both word association and the idea that two words can be strung together that make sense.

And of course, we can’t forget the fact that teaching kids about animals from a young age can develop a lifetime of respect for nature and species other than humans. For kids who do not have exposure to animals such as house pets, this could be crucial in teaching them about the animal kingdom and spark an interest and love for wildlife of all kinds.
